T-shirt Printing 101: What Are Spot Colors in T-Shirt Screen Printing?

February 18th, 2008

As we have mentioned before, in our post about screens for t-shirt screen printing, every screen has an ink color used for it. These singular/solid ink colors are considered spot colors. Most T-shirt designs consist of four or less spot colors on each location printed. An example of something that wouldn’t be considered a spot color would be a photograph because it has many thousands of colors, shades, and gradients.

Our online T-shirt designer provides you with over 5000 images and over 80 fonts all set up to be single spot colors. This will help you keep the cost down and keep the T-shirt print nice and clean.

Custom Spotlight: 50th Birthday Customized Hats

February 18th, 2008

There was a 50th birthday coming up and some customized hats were ordered to commemorate the occasion.  They went with the custom flexfit hats and chose custom embroidery on the front and back.  These embroidered hats were being shipped to Utah in the middle of winter, so it only made sense to add a snowflake to the front.

Custom T-Shirts at You Design It

February 17th, 2008

A musician contacted us for some custom t-shirts and she wanted some custom t-shirt artwork with it. She said that she was having a concert and wanted something “cool and different”. We went to work on designing some thing trendy and fresh. The on other request she had was for there to be colors for the guys and colors for the girls. Here is the artwork that we came up with for her custom t-shirts:

Different Colored Screen Printed T-shirts

February 16th, 2008

What happens if you have a T-shirt design but you want a few different colors T-shirts to be printed on?  For instance, we recently had an order for custom restaurant T-shirts, and the different employees wanted to choose from a few different colors T-shirts.  Our customer’s concern was that she would have to pay for different setups and not get the overall volume discount.  However, that is not the case whenever the design stays the same throughout the shirts.

In that same instant she wanted for different color printed T-shirts and the design had four different spot colors on the back.  One of the colors in the artwork on the back had to alternate between the dark and lighter color printed t shirts.  The words on the front also alternated from black on the light-colored shirts to white on the dark colored shirts.  Because there were only two overall ink changes, we only had to charge $10 per ink change for a total of 20 extra dollars.  So all in all, only 20 extra dollars for four different colored T-shirts out of a total of one hundred shirts.

Here is how the screen printed T-shirts came out:

Standard Embroidery Area Sizes

February 16th, 2008

As we’ve told you before, one of the main factors in pricing custom embroidery has to do with the size of the artwork. The larger the size of the embroidery, the more expensive it is. This is due in part because a larger embroidery area will cause the embroidery to have more stitches and will increase the amount of time it takes to finish the job. We have a few standard locations, we use an embroidery on, and would like to show you the sizes that we use for those locations.

The first and most popular location is the left chest:

The other location we commonly used on apparel is the high center back:

When it comes to headwear, we have the front of the hat:

And the back of the hat:

There are a few other locations available, but these are the most standard for custom embroidery. Please let us know how we can help you with your next custom apparel embroidery project.
